Why Study Mathematics and Statistics?

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics is committed to exemplary teaching and learning, scholarship and service. Our courses are designed to provide every student with the technical background they will need, and to inculcate a love for the "veritas"  of logical thought and elegant reasoning. The aim of our Undergraduate and Graduate programs is that our mathematics students can formalize, define, analyze, prove, and communicate mathematical results. At the graduate level, we offer an MA in Mathematics and an MS in Applied Statistics.

Mathematics plays an essential part in every area of modern technology, and in today's data-driven world, the need for talented mathematicians and statisticians has never been greater. Our core of basic courses are complemented with a wide range of specialized electives for you to personalize your experience depending on your career aspirations.

When bad actors attempt to buy new phones online to sell on the secondary market, theyll use stolen account credentials and credit card information. Its Jacob Rozrans job to weed out these fraudulent orders out. As the Manager of Data Analytics for Fraud Risk Management, he uses advanced analytics and data science to recognize red flags protecting the companys bottom line and preventing phony charges from popping up on its customers bills.
