GRADUATE PROGRAM IN CHEMISTRY

The Graduate Program in Chemistry at ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ is designed to accommodate both the working professional and the full-time student.

Graduate classes are taught by both full-time ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ faculty and adjunct faculty from local industries who are expert in their field.

Chemists and biochemists employed in local industry can easily take advantage of our evening classes. Working professionals can apply their work experience in lieu of a formal thesis.

The Master's program provides an excellent classroom and research experience to the full-time student who is looking for extensive research training. Students complete a thesis project under the direction of a research faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ graduates who have completed a thesis are very competitive candidates for positions in the extensive local chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Some graduates also enter PhD programs in Chemistry.

WHY GRAD CHEM?

Make the most of ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥'s rigorous graduate program in Chemistry with small classes taught by full-time faculty and industry experts.

Our faculty conduct research in state-of-the-art facilities using a wide variety of modern instrumentation. Research areas of interest include biochemical mechanisms, environmental chemistry, natural product synthesis, catalysis, and computational chemistry.

Meet our faculty.

Diverse opportunities exist for graduate students to join active research programs with faculty in both laboratory and computational aspects of chemical research. Faculty and graduate students publish research in top journals and present regularly at national and international conferences.

ALUMNI PERSPECTIVE

Alex Reif stands in a lab at GlaxoSmithKline.

ALEX REIF '08 CLAS, '10 MS

Alex serves as a Senior Scientist for GlaxoSmithKline — a career he began while obtaining his Master’s Degree in Chemistry from ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' flexible Master’s program allowed him to work full-time in the GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical lab while taking classes. Alex says, “My work today is different than my research at ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥, but I use the synthetic toolbox that I acquired at ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ every day in the lab to design and synthesize small organic molecules.â€
