SERVICE LEARNING COURSES

In service learning courses students participate in meaningful work that is related to the curriculum by serving in under-resourced community.

While courses usually change every semester, we always aim to provide a variety of relevant opportunities that will help with on-site service. Students do not receive credit for the service, it is considered a textbook that cannot be read.

Courses have included: Theology and Ethics of Criminal Justice, Ethical Traditions and Contemporary Life, Introduction to Sociology, Engineering in Humanistic Contexts, Perspectives on US Poverty, Christian Ethics, Philosophy of Education and Management Essentials.

"I once believed that teaching alone would change the world. However, as I attempted to assist 11 year-old Jos矇 in phonics, English and reading, I came to realize that it takes much more than my individual efforts to change the mindset around English Language learners, students of immigrant parents, and students at schools with low funding. School is one of the most powerful tools, but there are more tools that are necessary to build a just society with equal opportunity," says one student of the Teaching English as a Second Language" course.
