Aquinas and the Market: Toward a Humane Economy
The 2019 McCullen Symposium on Catholic Social Thought and Law will focus on Professor Mary Hirschfelds new book, Aquinas and the Market: Toward a Humane Economy (Harvard University Press, 2018). Professor Hirschfelds work focuses on the boundary between economics and theology, specifically through an economic approach based on the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas. This method can be applied to various topics, including consumption economics, economic justice, the common good, the nature of practical reason, and economic methodology. She has presented papers at the University of Notre Dame, University of Southern California, Fondazione Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice, in Milan, Italy, the Pontifical Council for Peace and Justice in Rome and Cambridge University in England.
