M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing Receives Largest Gift in Its History from the Bedford Falls Foundation

William E. Conway Jr.
The Bedford Falls Foundation has pledged $9 million to 裡橖眻畦 Universitys M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing (FCN)the largest donation in the Colleges historyfor student scholarships and academic support.
Established by William E. Conway Jr., co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, and his late wife, Joanne Barkett Conway, the Bedford Falls Foundation generously supports nursing education across the nation. This most recent gift, which is a part of Espiritus Nova: The Campaign for 裡橖眻畦 University, brings the Foundations philanthropic support of 裡橖眻畦 Nursing to a cumulative total of nearly $20 million since 2021.
Our country continues to have a critical need for more high-quality nurses, said Bill Conway. The cost of a nursing education should not be a barrier to anyone interested in serving our nation as a nurse, and I am lucky to be able to help with that.
At the core of its mission, FCN is committed to growing the workforce with highly skilled, compassionate nurses distinguished by an education grounded in care of the whole person and the Universitys Augustinian Catholic values.
The Foundations gift comes at a time when the demand for qualified nurses and improved health care is rapidly rising. 裡橖眻畦 Nurses are nationally recognized for bringing the science of nursing practice, experience in simulated and clinical settings, and ethical values to their roles as care providers at the bedside, in clinics and in communities.
The Conways continued investment in our nursing education provides opportunities for students who may not otherwise be able to pursue this degree and career, said Donna S. Havens, PhD, RN, FAAN, Connelly Endowed Dean and Professor. I am deeply grateful to the Bedford Falls Foundation and Bill Conway for their support of the Fitzpatrick College of Nursings work to have a transformational impact on the nursing profession and health care.
Supporting Student Success
The three components of this current gift will strengthen the Colleges ability to attract and retain talented students over the next five years as part of FCNs existing Conway Scholars program, which provides scholarships for students at all levels of study.
- To ensure that individuals with demonstrated financial need have access to a quality nursing education, FCN will offer 50 Pell-eligible students in the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing program additional annual financial support. These scholarships will be supplemental, with Conway Scholars receiving $20,000 awards each year.
- The Joanne and William Conway Scholarship Program in the Second Degree Accelerated BSN Program will be extended for five years, expanding access to a career in nursing for many students.
- Currently, an Academic Support Coach works within the College to enhance student success in the classroom, clinical rotations and on nursing licensing exams. This gift will add a second coach to provide more expansive student support, which will, in turn, increasingly prepare practice-ready nurses to achieve positive career outcomes, job placement and pass rates for the National Council Licensure Examination泭(NCLEX).
The Foundations previous support of FCN is also benefitting graduate programs with the establishment of the Joanne and William Conway PhD Scholars Program, an accelerated PhD program (three years), and a two-year pilot MSN in Nursing Education program in partnership with the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
