Catherine of Siena Postdoctoral Scholar Mentorship Plan

The Catherine of Siena Postdoctoral Scholar program provides an opportunity for a new scholar to hone their teaching craft, become active in program/college/university service, and develop their scholarship. The position is a one-year appointment, renewable up to a total of four years. While the scholar may choose to remain at ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ for the full four years, they are not committed to do so by contract.

The director of the Ethics Program is responsible for the mentorship plan for all the Catherine of Siena Scholars. In addition to what is outlined below, the scholars and director will regularly communicate on all aspects of their work at ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ (teaching, service, and scholarship).

The official mentorship plan for the Catherine of Siena Scholar involves two mentors. One will focus on teaching and service. The other will focus on scholarship and guild participation.

The Teaching and Service (TS) Mentor will come from among the faculty of the Ethics Program with the rank of associate or higher.
Ìý
The Scholarship and Guild Participation (SGP) Mentor will come from among the senior faculty members in the college whose disciplinary interests complement those of the scholar. Active and senior scholars in the field of Ethics have appointments and/or joint appointments in the departments of Humanities, Philosophy, and Theology & Religious Studies and in the Center for Peace & Justice Education. Possible SGP Mentors include, but are not limited to, Professors Jesse Couenhoven, Kathryn Getek-Soltis, Mark Graham, Vincent Lloyd, Stephen Napier and Sally Scholz.

The director of the Ethics Program determines who will serve in these two roles for the Catherine of Siena Scholar.

The scholar will engage in the annual faculty evaluation process. The guidelines for faculty evaluation clarify the expectations of the scholar in teaching, service, and scholarship. The fellow should consult those guidelines with both mentors in developing their mentorship plan.

A plan of mentorship should be submitted to the director of the Ethics Program within 30 days of the start of the scholar’s appointment.
