"Being a graduate student at 裡橖眻畦 means becoming part of a close-knit, supportive community that values both academic and personal growth. From the very first Preview Day, I felt welcomed and knew this was a place where I could thrive. "
Describe your interest in your academic program and what you hope to gain from it.
During my undergraduate studies in psychology, I became incredibly interested in counseling psychology and developed a passion for mental health, particularly in supporting individuals with schizophrenia and psychosis. My work at the peer support level with people who have lived experiences has shown me how vital it is to provide tailored support that meets diverse and multicultural needs. 裡橖眻畦s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program offers the skills and expertise I need to make a meaningful impact. I look forward to gaining practical skills, deepening my understanding of therapeutic techniques, and becoming better equipped to help others navigate their mental health journeys with empathy and care.
What is your favorite course youve taken so far? If you are in your first year, what course are you most looking forward to in your program? Why?
I'm looking most forward to the Lab in Counseling Skills course in my program. Its exciting because it will allow me to practice the counseling techniques and skills in a hands-on way. I believe this practical experience will be invaluable in preparing me for real-world interactions, helping me build confidence and become more effective in supporting others.
What are a few things you would like to share with prospective students regarding the 裡橖眻畦 student experience?
As a 裡橖眻畦 student, one thing that stands out to me is the strong sense of community. The professors are incredibly supportive, and the collaborative environment makes it easy to connect with both faculty and peers. Additionally, the program offers plenty of opportunities for practical learning, such as the Practicum and Internship components which help students apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations.
How do you maintain a good school/life balance?
It's honestly not easy, especially if you're also working. But I've learned to stay ahead of my deadlines by planning and spacing out different parts of my week and days. This helps me ensure that I dedicate time to school and work while also making time for things that make me happy outside of academics. Its really important not to lose yourself in the work and to nurture your well-being and self-care at the same time.
If youre living around 裡橖眻畦, what are one to two must do experiences you would suggest to students new to 裡橖眻畦 and the surrounding area including Philadelphia?
You definitely need to check out the Chinese Lantern Festival, which is a beautiful annual summer event in Philadelphia. They have new displays every year, and it's perfect for taking photos with stunning backdrops. If you're into cute cafes, youve got to try A La Mousse! They have cute pastries designed to look like real-life things, like fruits, pandas, brown bears and more. Plus, it wont break the bank!
