Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars Program

Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars Program

The Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars Program, named in memory of the late Judith Connelly Delouvrier, is designed to provide a variety of short- and long-term educational opportunities within the nursing curriculum for a select group of qualified nursing students. The program is open to students seeking degrees in the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at the undergraduate and graduate levels and provides partial funding for their nursing course-related experience. It offers unique cultural perspectives to students interested in expanding their knowledge and experience. These educational opportunities will provide students with:

  • A perspective on the role of nursing in the global healthcare system
  • An opportunity to broaden student perspectives on cultural difference and poverty and their impact on health delivery
  • An opportunity for students to understand the need for nursing leadership in confronting issues of health care delivery worldwide

You may learn more by discussing opportunities with your advisor and watching for information sessions held by faculty for upcoming experiences. Experiences may include yearlong study abroad; short, credit-bearing programs conducted internationally or domestically; international professional development opportunities or research and data collection. Once a study opportunity has been identified, the student must complete the standard application for that desired program as well as the Connelly-Delouvrier application if he or she seeks partial funding for the experience. Selected students are called Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars.

Awards for Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars

Awards made to nursing students chosen as Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars may represent a combination of program tuition and/or associated program educational expenses. No funding is provided for personal expenses. Students are expected to raise additional funds to supplement their scholarship and provide for their personal expenses.
The amount of the award will be recommended by the selection committee and determined by the Dean. The student is then notified of the financial support to be awarded.

The selection process

The Connelly-Delouvrier International Scholars are selected by a faculty committee, chaired by the Dean of the College of Nursing, that reviews each application. Selected students must understand that there may be additional time spent in preparation for their specific experience.

My View

"Observing the profession of nursing in Ireland was very exciting and interesting. I learned so much about nursing and health care in Ireland and also the United States. My interest in the profession of nursing has increased as a result of my recent trip. My goal in the future is to learn more about nursing in other countries."
