Research

  • Research Project: Modeling traumatic brain injury validated with in vivo diffusion imaging
  • Project Description: Repetitive head impacts, even those with no acute symptoms or signs, have been suggested as a possible cause of chronic brain injury. This project aims to develop a biomimetic, analytical, numerical, and experimental approach to examine the flow and pressurization of the cerebral spinal fluid in the subarachnoid space as the head is imposed to sudden external head impacts. This approach will then be validated using an advanced hybrid diffusion imaging sequence, to eventually apply this technique to real-world clinical applications. A novel approach to previously developed biomechanical studies of brain injury, as validation using human brain imaging with advanced sequences has not been well established.
