Three ΈΜιΩΦ±²¥ College of Engineering projects were among the 26 funded through the Manufacturing PA initiative. With faculty as the principle investigators, the program embeds graduate and undergraduate students with local manufacturers, where they embark on research projects to develop new technologies and advance innovation.
A Visit to the Farm Provides One of E2SI’s Many Learning Experiences
The Engineering Entrepreneurship Summer Institute introduces students to entrepreneurial technologies, business principles and venture planning, not with standard-fare lectures and books, but with first-hand lessons from those who have “been there and done that.” In addition to guest speakers, the program takes students on a variety of educational field trips, including a recent visit to Milky Way Farm.

ΈΜιΩΦ±²¥ Electrical and Computer Engineering professor Dr. Mark Jupina created a futuristic field to help ΈΜιΩΦ±²¥ baseball players recognize pitches and patterns, which increases their chances to hit the ball with accuracy.
NovaCell Graduate Students Lead Community Outreach Initiative
ΈΜιΩΦ±²¥’s Center for Cellular Engineering (NovaCell) recently launched a new initiative, appropriately titled HEART. Operating from the belief that scientific research be ethical, empathetic and beneficial to communities and society in general, the HEART initiative aims to connect with the local community on a personal level. NovaCell graduate students recently volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House.
Closing the Gap for Under-Resourced Students with VESTED
For more than a decade, the ΈΜιΩΦ±²¥ Engineering, Science, Technology, Enrichment, and Development (VESTED) outreach program has introduced hundreds of students to engineering and helped prepare them for college.
New CubeSat Club: Exploring Space Science and Engineering
Dr. Alan Johnston, associate teaching professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the faculty advisor for the new ΈΜιΩΦ±²¥ student organization known as CubeSat Club. A CubeSat is a nanosatellite that sends telemetry information—measurements communicated at remote points by automated processes—over radio signals received on earth by a ground station. They can help students learn about orbital mechanics, conditions in space and energy production via solar cells.
