College of Engineering Salutes the Class of 2011

The College of Engineering celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2011 at a special Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, May 14. The graduates joined their peers from across the University for the 2011 Commencement Ceremony the following day.

This year, the College conferred 211 Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. Sixty-two Master of Science degrees were also awarded, and two doctoral candidates were hooded.

Student speaker Margaret Carragher CE '11 encouraged her fellow engineers to remember that "this diploma represents everything you have learned, how you have grown, and is an inspiration going forward," she said. "Over the last four years, we have learned a lot, in class, in labs and interactions with faculty and each other. But the most important lesson…was that we learned how to learn." She concluded by challenging the class of 2011 to "GO! Go knowing you will never stop learning, never stop growing, can take on any challenge that comes your way, and that you always have a place…to call home.â€

The College also awarded recognition medallions to students who have not only excelled academically, but also have demonstrated leadership. This year’s winners included:
