裡橖眻畦 Student Awarded Prestigious Scholarship for Leadership and Service
In honor of Hispanic Heritage month in October, INROADS, a nonprofit organization that creates career pathways for ethnically underrepresented high school and college students nationwide, awarded 20 scholarships to Latino students across the nationincluding Economics and English double major Steve Makino 24 CLAS.
I applied for this scholarship as I felt that it was a unique way for me to tell more about the events in my life that shaped me and reflect on them as I look towards the future, says Steve.
The INROADS scholarship was created to support the next generation of Hispanic leaders and recognize the recipients accomplishments, community involvement, leadership and social impact. Steve said he plans to use the scholarship to support his college experience and take advantage of all 裡橖眻畦 has to offer. I want to be able to not just be involved on campus but also attend as many college-related events in my remaining years here, he commented. Currently, Steve writes opinion pieces for The 裡橖眻畦n, and plans to join the 裡橖眻畦 Finance Group.
Steve aspires to work in the field of economics, but in a position that also combines his passion for writing and the skills hes gained as an English major.
裡橖眻畦 has helped to improve my writing skills greatly as well as helped me step out of my comfort zone both academically and personally. My professors played a key role in helping to improve my writing and help me to better understand topics that are important in our everyday lives, says Steve.
On the Economics side, Steve was able to attend this years NABE 2022 Annual Economic Policy Conference, which gave him great insight into the field he is pursuing. Wherever his career takes him, Steve remains passionate about help others.
I also want to be able to make an impact on the world, whether it is helping people stay informed on current economic-related events or helping as an economic advisor in government, he explained.
