ACADEMIC YEAR BUSINESS MINOR

A Business Minor.  A Major Advantage!

First and second-year matriculated students in the College of Engineering or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are eligible to apply. Because of curricular conflicts, Nursing students are unable to complete the requirements and should consider VSB’s Summer Business Institute (SBI) or Summer Business Academy (SBA).  Acceptance into the Academic Year Business Minor program is competitive and admission decisions are made, once a year, after completion of the spring term.

Decisions are based upon overall academic performance, with a focus on quantitative-based courses and criteria comparable to those of students accepted as first-year students in VSB.  A minimum of four semesters is typically required to complete the minor, and students in the program take classes with VSB students during the academic year. Note that limited space is available for this program.

: students seeking admission to the academic year program should review the minor requirements and discuss these courses with their primary academic advisor to understand if the courses may be applied to their degree requirements. Course planning, including the business minor courses, should also be discussed at that time.

In order to apply, students must attend an information session. Applicants will be notified in late May/early June if they have been accepted to the program. At that time accepted applicants will be provided with instructions for the next steps and course registration information*. The Director, VSB Business Minor Programs, will assist students with registration and monitor course progress and business minor requirements.

* Only VSB students, including business minor students, are eligible to register for courses with the VSB designation (VSB 1000, 1015, 2004, etc.).  Non-VSB students, including program applicants, are unable to register for courses with the VSB designation.  Applicants should register for courses required by their primary college/degree program during the fall/spring registration period, prior to admission decisions in late Spring.
