The St. Patrick Medallion in the Pizazzola Engineering Gateway welcomes visitors as they enter ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ Engineering’s new home—Drosdick Hall
Upon entering the Piazzola Engineering Gateway—the lobby of ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ Engineering’s new home, Drosdick Hall—you are greeted by a magnificent bronze medallion surrounded by a limestone bench. It may surprise some to see at the center of this monument St. Patrick, who brought Christianity to Ireland and also is known, according to legend, for driving snakes out of Ireland. However, the fifth-century figure is also recognized as the patron saint of engineers because of his knowledge of Roman mortar and arch construction, which he shared with the Irish while building early churches.
