Engineering Professor Appointed a Distinguished Lecturer for International Professional Association

¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ University Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Robert Caverly, PhD, has been appointed by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society () as a Distinguished Microwave Lecturer () for the triennium 2014-2016. Each year, the Society selects a group of lecturers who are recognized experts in their fields. With his lecture on RF Aspects of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Dr. Caverly is among a select few to be invited to this prestigious and key service for the MTT-S.

A ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ College of Engineering faculty member since 1997, Dr. Caverly's research interests focus on the characterization of semiconductor devices such as PIN diodes and FETs in the microwave and RF control environment. He teaches courses in Engineering Electromagnetics and Microwave Theory and Techniques at both the undergraduate and graduate level, has published more than 100 journal and conference papers, and is the author of CMOS RFIC Design Principles. A Fellow of the IEEE, Dr. Caverly is an editorial board member of the monthly IEEE Transactions of Microwave Theory and Techniques and IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters. He is also an associate editor of the IEEE Microwave Magazine and past chairperson of MTT-17, the HF-VHF-UHF Technology Technical Committee of the MTT-S.

Since about 2008, one of the technical areas that Dr. Caverly has been working in involves a collaborative effort with industry and the medical/academic community on problems related to the RF technology side of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners. His partnership with Microsemi, Inc. and Stanford University’s Richard Lucas Center for Imaging has resulted in more than ten technical papers and numerous microwave symposium workshops and lectures. In January 2014, Dr. Caverly will present his inaugural MTT-S talk in California, and will present at least five to seven lectures, workshops and short courses nationally and internationally for the next three years. His appointment will also include attending conferences on MRI technology so that his DML presentations reflect the current state of the art.
