MAJOR IN CLASSICAL STUDIES

The Classical Studies Program explores the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome, from the beginnings of Greek civilization to the fall of the Roman empire. Our program is interdisciplinary, embracing the study of classical languages, literatures, history, art and archaeology, philosophy and religion.

Classical civilization courses range from perennial favorites like Classical Mythology, to archaeology courses such as Cities of Ancient GreeceÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýRome: The Ancient City, to thematic courses such as Ancient Greece and Rome in FilmÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýPompeii and Herculaneum. We offer undergraduate language courses in Latin and Ancient Greek and a number of upper level literature courses in the original languages—studying the work of authors such as Vergil, Ovid, Cicero, Caesar, Homer, Herodotus, and Plato.
