The David F. and Constance B. Girard-diCarlo Center for Ethics, Integrity and Compliance will host the inaugural Lewis H. Gold ’62 Lecture on Ethics and Professional Responsibility on Thursday, March 31. The Honorable Marjorie O. Rendell, Senior Circuit Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, will present “Ethical Reflections.”

This lecture honors the memory of Lewis H. Gold ’62, an exceptional advocate with a strong sense of ethics. The naming was made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor in collaboration with his family.

This program is approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board for 1 Ethics In-Person CLE credit. Please note registration prior to the event is required. This event will take place from 3:00–4:00 p.m. in the Arthur M. Goldberg ’66 Commons in John F. Scarpa Hall. A reception will follow in the Ambassador David F. Girard-diCarlo ’73 and Constance B. Girard-diCarlo ’74 Student Lounge. For those who wish to join virtually, a livestream link will be available on the webpage the day of the event. No distance learning CLE credits will be available.

Judge Marjorie Rendell received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and her JD from the ֱ University Charles Widger School of Law. Upon graduation from law school,she joined the law firm of Duane, Morris & Heckscher, where she subsequently became thefirm’s second woman partner.

Judge Rendell was inducted as a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern Districtof Pennsylvania in March of 1994 and was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals forthe Third Circuit in November of 1997. Judge Rendell took Senior Status on July 1, 2015.

In 2004, Judge Rendell was awarded the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Sandra Day O’ConnorAward, given annually to a woman attorney whose career in the legal profession hasdemonstrated her superior legal talent and significant achievements within the legal community,and her support for women in the profession.

As First Lady of Pennsylvania from January of 2003 through January 2011, Judge Rendell’sprimary initiative focused on imparting civic responsibility to Pennsylvania’s children throughcivic learning. In 2014 she co-founded the Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement, anonprofit corporation that focuses on educating students, especially at the elementary level,regarding the principles and disciplines of democracy. Judge Rendell has served her communityas Chairman of the Board of the Avenue of the Arts, Inc., a member of the Board of Directorsof the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, and a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania.
